- He was listed as an Indian male of 9 years. He could not read nor write. He and his parents were born in Louisiana.
||29 Apr 1910
||Montegut, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States [5, 6]
- He was listed as a black male of 39 years. He would have just turned 39 on the 21th. The location and date is a really good match besides the race being listed as black. During these times indians, mulattos and blacks were often referred to as people of color. This fact would point to this being a error. I have also come across other geneaologist researching these family lines that are in fact black, and insist that these family lines, Verdun and Billiot, are atleast partly black. Bernard was listed as a widower who spoke French and could not read nor write. He worked as a fur trapper. He was a boarder in the household of Aregrippe Dardar in Montegut.
||22 Mar 1920
||Houma, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States
- A Bernard Billiot appears listed in Houma in 1920. The wife's name, Marquerite does not match the name I have, Amentine; but sometime the names can be off due to using first or second given names. The birth date matches well. The man in the listing is 48 years old in March. In my data, Bernard Victor would not have turned 48 for another month. If this were a match there are two children listed, Elizah (daughter) and Eaton (son). Upon looking at the 1910 census, I decided that this is a match. he was listed as a widower at ge 39. The ages match perfectly, yet in 1910 he is listed as a black male as Indians sometimes were. In 1920 he rented a home for his wife and two children. The children could be his new wife's or his from the first marraige. He was a 48 year old Indian male. He worked as a fisherman. He could not read nor write. He and his parents were born in Louisiana.
